5 new year resolutions for 2020!
It is that time of the year again, people are very busy trying to finish all the loose ends and preparing for Xmas. For most people, the work will soon come to a halt and there will be time to relax and maybe a holiday break in prospect. How nice is that! And when we are fully stuffed by all the good Xmas food and we have reflected on our new year resolutions, we will give January a fresh start.
Maybe you already have some new year resolutions for yourself. But what about the resolutions for your company for 2020?
Organizations have to deal with various trends. Consider far-reaching automation and the increasing demand for data management, scarcity on the labor market, further aging of your workforce and the newcomers; the millennials and generation Z. These trends have more impact within one sector than in the other, but one thing is certain: we will all have to deal with them.
These trends challenge organizations such as yours to keep a critical eye on the chosen strategy and the associated goals. From an HR perspective, it is an extremely exciting period. Organizations can actually make a difference by doing the right investments in their human capital and thereby asking themselves the following: Why would people want to work with us? Where do we want our organization to be in five years? Are we as an organization able to offer employees a sustainable career? What is the right strategy to continuously engage our people?
We offer you this food for thoughts to strengthen your organization in 2020:
1. Start, stop, continue
With these three-stages you can make a difference for your organization in the coming year. After reading this, reflect briefly on your organization. Make a note for yourself;
Start: What am I going to do next year, what I am not doing yet?
Stop: What am I doing now that I want to stop next year?
Continue: What is going well and do I want to continue doing the same next year?
2. Invest in the personal development of your leaders
They are the ones who must take your organization to the next phase. Empower leaders, challenge them to develop their own style and make the most of their potential. Ensure that your leaders are able to motivate, inspire and increase the innovative capacity of your organization and your employees.
3. Do something different! Give creativity a platform
Try to do things just a little bit different in 2020 than in 2019. Challenge yourself to constantly change and innovate. Find associates within your organization who dare to take a different perspective, form a creative team of enthusiasts and work on concrete business cases. The survival of your organization will benefit from this one way or the other.
4. Take talent as the starting point
When hiring new people, don't just think about the here and now and meeting the hard requirements - look at someone's motivation, ambition and development potential. Careers will become much more dynamic in the future, involving circular jobs. Talent is taken as a starting point and no longer a static job profile.
5. Make well-being of your employees a top priority!
Create a clear vision of what "well-being" of your employees within your organization means. How can your organization create the preconditions for keeping employees healthy and vital for a long time? Are you already practising jobcrafting and to what extent can employees shape their careers themselves? What is your standing on a vital organization? Answer these questions for yourself to find out where you stand in terms of well-being and how you can increase it.
Hopefully this food for thoughts will contribute to your inspiration to form your resolutions for the new year, so that you can start 2020 with concrete goals!
